New year is here and WhatsApp has some cool new features to offer this year. The chat company has been working on some big features like fingerprint security for the app and dark mode since last year and could finally launch them this year.

There have been numerous leaks and rumours around these upcoming features. For those of you who are yet unaware of these upcoming top new features, here is a list of all the features that are going to come soon. Take a look:

— WhatsApp fingerprint authentication: WhatsApp has often been targeted for its privacy measures. The company, therefore, is said to be working on a fingerprint authentication feature that would protect your chats from unwanted access. You will have to authenticate the app with your fingerprint every time you open the app and if the authentication fails, the app will ask for your phone’s PIN or passcode to unlock the app. The feature was spotted by WaBetaInfo on iOS.

— Redesigned audio files section: WhatsApp is said to be working on a redesigned audio files section for Android users which would allow you to send 30 audio files together at once. The app currently allows you to send just one audio file. The redesigned section apparently also allows you to preview the audio file before you send.

— Consecutive voice messages playing: The feature could come handy for those who love to exchange too many voice messages on WhatsApp. Currently you have to tap on every single voice message in order to listen to the message. With the new update, the chat app will automatically play the consecutive voice messages in series.

— Dark mode: WhatsApp is going to get dark mode soon. The mode when enabled will reduce the strain on your eyes when you use the app in dark ambience. The feature could also help phones with OLED screen to save some battery.

— Group video call button: This feature is already out for Android beta users. It allows you to choose all the members of a group or only the selected ones to undertake a video call with them. You can also switch between voice and video calls if you want.
