Instagram is making publishing a post to multiple accounts a possibility. If you are a social media account manager or handle multiple Instagram pages, then this might interest you.

The feature seems very convenient especially if you work with brands such as Clere – who have multiple pages linked to one product and want to publish the same post across the board.

How to post to multiple Instagram accounts

The ‘Self-gram’ feature will be accessed at the final screen before you publish your post – appearing under the ‘Tag friends’ and ‘Location’ options. Linked profiles will appear as a list under the two options.

Dashboard and Social Media managing tools

The feature is not a new invention though, as it has been in existent through third-party platforms and APIs for a while. You have platforms such as Hootsuite providing a dashboard to handle multiple accounts already, and others offering even more features.

As good and convenient the feature may seem, there are parties who find it controversial – Twitter being a stand out of those against the idea.

Twitter does not allow multi-account posting

Earlier in 2018, Twitter made a statement prohibiting users from accessing the very feature. They made their point clear by saying: “Twitter prohibits any attempt to use automation for the purposes of posting or disseminating spam, and such behavior may result in enforcement action”

Twitter took the stand as part of their Quality Information efforts, and said the actions are: “an important step in ensuring we stay ahead of malicious activity targeting the crucial conversations taking place on Twitter — including elections in the United States and around the world.

Digital is about strategy

Regardless of the politics and controversy surrounding the multi-account posting feature, its use will always boil down to strategy.

One needs to ask the questions; Is it beneficial for your company to have multiple twitter accounts? if yes what’s the goal behind overlapping content?

Ideally, you want to have unique content for each account; One would think the reason you have separate pages is because you believe your audiences are not the same.

Instagram Multi-account posting confirmed for iPhone and not Android

An Instagram spokesperson confirmed the feature to Techcrunch. It will be rolling out to iOS devices, and no word has been said as yet regarding Android users.
